Once upon a time, there was not a coffee shop on every corner in every town. When people needed a cup of coffee, they either headed over to a diner, a restaurant, or they went inside a gas station and drank the sludge which had been sitting there for several hours.
Times have changed.
You might be hard-pressed to find a single town out there that didn’t have a number of coffee shops. Choosing the right one is not always an easy matter, but there are some factors you might want to consider when trying to find the coffee shop that is going to fit your needs. It might take a little time to find just the right place, but once you do, you’ll probably find that it was worth the quest.
1. Good coffee.
While this might seem to be obvious, it actually isn’t. Finding out where a coffee shop gets its coffee from is important. Are the beans supplied by local growers or do they come from various fair trade distributors? These are questions that can determine whether or not you want to give your business to the shop. Obviously, if the beans are not freshly roasted, the coffee provided will not be at its peak flavor.
Lighting is an important factor when it comes to determining if a coffee shop is going to become your new favorite place. When you walk in, you want it to be bright and welcoming. Having a terrific cup of coffee is an experience best determined by how you feel when you first walk in.
If you enter a coffee shop that is airy and open and warm, you might find your experience to be much more enjoyable than if you enter a shop that is shadowy and dark. Finding a place with the right light goes a long way to determining how much time you’ll want to spend in the shop.
Take a look at the coffee shop and get a feel for how comfortable the place is. For many people, enjoying a cup of coffee (either alone or with others) entails being able to sit in a comfortable chair or on an inviting couch and just allowing the stresses of the outside world fade away. You’ll want a place where you can stretch out, where you can just take a deep breath and a sip of coffee and feel as if you belong there.
There are people who spend a great deal of time in their favorite coffee shop and the longer they are there, the more likely it is that hunger will set in at some point. That’s why it’s important to find an establishment that’s going to have some sort of snacks available. Obviously, if the snacks are made in-house, that’s a huge plus.
Finally, you’re going to want to find a coffee shop that has the right staff to suit your needs. You want friendly people who are competent and knowledgeable in their trade. Getting a welcoming smile with that first cup of coffee often goes a long way to getting the day off to a great start.
By keeping these five factors in mind when you’re out there looking for the perfect coffee shop to consider your new home away from home, you should be able to locate the right one that suits you perfectly.
