For many entrepreneurs, planning special events is one of their dreams come true. Having fun while bringing in some extra cash is a job they would love. As tempting as it is to start putting “guerilla advertising” stickers all over town, the planner needs to take care of a few critical issues.

How to begin planning? Events for home-based planners can take the form of:
• children’s birthday parties
• small weddings
• anniversary celebrations
• small office parties
• meetings
• tea parties
• reunions
• holiday parties
• memorials, and more

What does a client expect a party planner to do?

• arrange for food, decorations, and entertainment
• sending invitations

Do you have to have credentials to be a party planner?

If you intend to open an events planning shop that caters to more high-end projects or involves more expensive events needing more services, you will probably do better at increasing your client-base if you have a degree in Event Management. If you are an artist, there will likely be parents lined up to pay for your expertise for the next children’s gathering they have planned.

Starting a party planning business out of your home will, of course, cut down on many expenses that storefront planners will accrue. Also, if you are a devoted Pinterest fan, you will have a headstart that is hard to beat. Still, you need to know what your costs could be.

• vendors and suppliers
• other planners
• what your clients want for their party

4. Marketing and Research

Home-based business startups are usually cutting as many corners as they can. At least at first, advertising almost always has to be inexpensive. That kind of marketing includes:
• Yellow Page advertisements online
• local newspaper advertising
• networking (Chamber of Commerce, making friends in the industry, networking with local restaurants, caterers, and more)
• making your business card online
• creating a brochure (send to local businesses or a mailing list)
• blogging
• building a website

These ideas are not comprehensive but are a terrific start for those who like to entertain, decorate, and create. And remember this
