Marketing Your Business With Facebook

Marketing your business is never an easy task. In fact, it’s one that many business owners dread. While there are plenty of advertising agencies who would be happy to accept payment for advertising your business, there are also quite a few free options for advertising your business or organization online. Facebook offers business owners a free global option for marketing online. With a worldwide reach, businesses can promote their specials, products, and company to users of all ages, backgrounds, and lifestyles.

Before you can promote your company on Facebook, you’ll first need to create a Facebook fan page. Your fan page is the basis for promoting. People will be able to “like” your page and see updates that you post about your current specials, coupons, giveaways and new products. Name your fan page after your company. That way people will know exactly what organization they are “liking” on Facebook. For example, if your company is a friendly bookstore, don’t name your fan page “I love books.” Instead, call your fan page by your company name, such as “Lone Star Books.”

Once you have your fan page up, choose a profile picture that captures the essence of your organization. This could be a picture of your storefront, your business logo or even a picture of something you sell. Your image should be clear and professional looking. Don’t upload pictures that were taken with a cell phone or that have been heavily edited. You want your customers to know exactly what your company has to offer just from the picture they see. In the bookstore example, you could upload a picture of the front of your bookstore with the name of the company clearly visible. A second option would be to share a picture of a stack of books.

When you have your fan page up and running, you’ll want to get people to “like” your page. This is one of the best ways to promote your company. After all, the more people who know about your website, the more people you can expect to shop there or to drop in to your office. Share your fan page with your personal friends and ask them to do the same. It’s a good idea to offer some incentives for sharing the page, though. This will help your fan base grow immensely. One way you could offer an incentive is to give a $25 gift certificate to the person who refers the most friends to your page. Another option would be to host a drawing when you reach a certain number of “likes” on your page and give away a gift certificate to a random person.

Once you have fans, make sure you include regular updates on your page. Let everyone know about specials you have. If you’re expecting to get in a new shipment of books or a new product, let your fans know. They’ll want to hear about everything you have to offer. Try to update your page at least once a day to make sure your fans are constantly thinking about your company and your organization, but remember that not every post has to be about yourself. It’s okay to share interesting news stories or posts from other fan pages as long as they relate to your company. This means you could share a story about a library on your book store page, but you might not want to share a funny picture of cats.

As your fan base grows, you’ll find that you soon have an influx of business and customers. You may even find that people send you questions or comments about your organization over Facebook. This is great for you since the more people talk about your company, the more your business will grow, bloom and flourish.
